About Us

B. E. Singleton & Sons was established in 1940 and was built on an outstanding reputation of repeat business, referrals, and outstanding customer service to new business in Washington, NC and the surrounding areas. Charlie Manning and Bobby Hanna purchased the company in 2014 from Bonnie and Marshall Singleton, bringing a lot of experience and energy to this company that began 75 years ago.
Bobby Hanna

Bobby is a graduate of East Carolina University in Construction Management. Bobby worked for a general contractor for 3 years and with a major roadway contractor for 14 years. He started roadway work in the field on a grade crew. He has field and lab experience working in asphalt.  Bobby has many local contacts, having worked on private projects, NCDOT projects, and federal projects at Cherry Point and Camp Lejeune. He has managed and bid civil projects, ranging from $50,000 to $70 million. He and his wife, Amanda, have two daughters and a son.
Charlie Manning 
Charlie is a graduate of North Carolina State University in Civil Engineering. He worked for an engineering firm for 3 years and became a licensed professional engineer in 1999. He worked for a major roadway contractor for 17 years, where he started as a foreman in the heavy highway division and also worked in the asphalt division. His latest roadway work was in the commercial division managing private, NCDOT, and federal projects east of I-95.  Charlie also worked in the summers for B.E. Singleton while he was growing up. He and his wife, Lesleigh, have two daughters and a son. 

Office Team


Bill Woolard, Sharon Owens, and Anne Maatman serve our customers well with logistical, reception, and accounting support. They stand ready to serve during our office hours, 7:00 a.m. - 5:30 p.m. Monday-Friday.
